Heavy bullets in 30-06
Has any one experimented with bullets heavier than 220gr in a 30-06?

I know it kinda defies the purpose of a 30-06 but I started thinking about it when I saw a company advertising .30 bullets up to 220, 230, 250 and 260gr.

All ya got to have is adequate barrel twist. I have to wonder what are you hunting that would require over 220 grainers? Past 220 I would think a bigger caliber is in order.

If you go much more than 220 gn with an 06 then it looses a lot of efficency, better to go with a bigger bore. Sometimes less is more.

If you like bigger slugs I would highly reccomend a 338-06.

Yup, I agree w/Wstrnhuntr but then again can understand if someone is perhaps constrained by limited resources.

The one-step up for me was (& is) the 9.3x62 - It'll do just fine with 250-286 grainers.
