Redding sells a crimper die for most rifle bullets even though they may not have a channelure.Redding claims improved accuracy due to increased start pressure.I can find no data on loads for crimped shells nor any discussion on merits of same for accuracy.Comments?

I may be wrong but I think you mean the Lee factory crimp dies.I use them in my 44 mag s-redhawk and some of my 30-30 loads,haven`t noticed "improved accuracy"but powder seems to burn more uniform in SOME rounds.

I did a small test on this -- posted it in a thread on "how much to crimp" or some such, within the past 10 days.

Bottom line -- in my rifle, reduced load for .338 Win. Mag. using XMP-5744 had more consistent velocities but worse accuracy.

Your mileage may vary.

The only thing I crimp at all are for lever guns with tubular magazines. Otherwise who needs them..

I don't crimp at all.Unless you have a tubular magazine or recoil is extremely heavy(enough to move bullets in the cases in the magazine) it isn't required and offers no advantages.

I have seen some loads improved with the Lee crimp die, but some got worse too. It's something to try if you want, usually other things make a bigger difference.

Try a Lee crimp, if it helps great, if not your only out about $8.00......You be the judge.

I use the lee Factory crimp die for my .338 WinMag. My A-Frame load(217gr. with 68.5gr of H4350) Had a spread of 50 fps without it and 18fps with it. My biggest concern for it was under recoil to keep the round in the magazine from shifting under recoil. Grat for tube magazine rifles.
