Need data/ 7rem mag/ 160speer/H1000

BLR7 (Texas Cactus Shooter)

I am trying to find recipes for 160gr Speer spbt
in 7mm rem mag using H1000 powder. Need group sizes and velocities if possible. The only references I can find are 71.5gr approx.2,985fps
with 0.8" groups. I have read that H1000 is smooth
burning and shows no pressure spikes,not affected
by temperature changes etc. I would really like to
perfect this load if I can! All info appreciated!

And you'll probably find it likes 71 grains best. Great performing load in my 7RMags.

Gentlemen,
thanks for your replies. Last night I worked up
from 69.5 - 70.5gr at .5gr intervals. I'm using
new Win brass and 250 CCI primers at 3rounds per
weight interval. I don't plan on going any higher
than 72.0 gr with this first test batch. I tried
using R-19 a while and did get some good groups
at 100yds. but they would open up at 200 and 300yds to 3-4". The heavier bullets seem to be more of a challenge past 100yds, I guess due to
lower velocities. If this powder doesn't improve this downrange problem, I may go back to 150gr
bullet and stay there! Anyway, thanks again and
I'll post my results when I get the time. Good

A 3-4" group at 300 yards is damn good. 1" groups at 100 yards are 3" groups at 300 yards, except in rare instances, where a rifle will shoot tighter at longer distances.

I'd say your wobbles and the wind are the reason your groups open up.

I'd take a 3" group at 300 yards anyday [Razz]

Yes you are correct, those are very good groups at
200-300 yds. and I may be asking for too much at
those ranges but where I hunt your most often
presented with 200yds+ shots and I missed a nice
buck last year at 300yds,(approx.) This year I
don't plan on that happening again. It was cold
and windy that morning and he was heading into the wind and I think the shot went downwind about
even with his stomach and just under him as I saw
a cloud of dirt the other side of him uphill! I'm
sure it was the shooter in part but that was with
the same 160gr speer psbt that had grouped sub MOA
at 100yds and 4-7" at 300yds before season. I went back to camp, shot 3 rounds at a target at
300yds and they were all over the paper. If I can't get subMOA at 100, 200, and 300yds with the
160gr, I will try 150gr and 140gr until I find
what works! Also that rifle was a BLR7mag 24" barrel and the rifle I'm working with now is a
Browning A-bolt 7mag 26" barrell and is much more accurate so far! Reloading is a challenge but
hunting is the ultimate test! BLR7

H1000 73gr, WW brass,fed215 primer,Hornady 162 btat 2950fps in my rifle groups 1"/1.5" no pressure signs but always start 10% below and work up.

My load that I have been using in my 7mmRem.Mag. is 73grs. H1000 with a siera or nosler bullet. Fed 215 primers. The velosity out of my rifle with this load is 3040 fps. Accurate enough to be called a liar.

Beleive me ,H-1000 can spike,mind you it was in a 264.My lot was bit faster,velocity was less and pressure was up,compared to IMR7828.

IMR 4350 at 61.0 grains with Sierra 160 BT and Fed Match 215GM primers in Fed Nickle Cases, excellent load used this load for years in my 7mm Mag. Make sure you seat your bullets out too 3.290" COL.

BLR7,

If you missed under his belly, you definetely didn't account for the wind/drop enough, or at all. A 160 gr. BT @ 3000 fps drifts 5" in a 20 mph wind at 300 yards. I don't know how low you were when you shot at 300 yards on paper, but a 160 gr. should drop 7" from a 200 yard zero.

A lever action BLR probably won't be as accurate as a good bolt. You might find practicing at long range may help your groups more than searching for the "magic" bullet, one that shoots into 1 ragged hole at 300y. But, I say try different loads, that's all the fun.

I've never tried H1000, but I know a guy who has had good results with an A-Bolt in 7mm Mag. 162 gr. Hornady SST was the bullet, and I think the powder charge was 72 grs, not sure.

I've tried RL25, which is similar to H1000. Slightly slower burning according to burn-rate charts. RL25 loads are usually a grain or two more than H1000 loads, for the same velocity.

My Point Blank program calculated 12" of drift for a 160 gr 7MM SBT at 300 yds and 20 mph of cross wind.

Gentlemen:
Thanks again for all your replies. I failed to mention that I took a doe later on in the season
for venison with the A-bolt at a little over 180yds using Remington factory 150gr cor-lokts.
I was using the same scope taken off the BLR, a
LeoVXIII 4.5-14x zero'd at 200yrds. Bullet hit just a little above POA but took out lungs and
heart and the deer droped to the shot. I plan on
trying out these 160gr handloads on some feral
hogs this month. If I can just get some range time
I have several combinations loaded with rl-19,
H-1000, and IMR4350 with the 160gr Speers. Have
any of you been able to try out the new Speer
Deep-Shok bullets yet? I've seen them advertised
on the web but suppliers all show to be out of stock. It supposedly has a small meplat tip instead of the exposed soft lead tips. Thanks for
the recipies. I had powder for some of them but
having trouble finding IMR7828 locally. [Smile]
