Dupont Hi-Skor 700-X for 22 Hornet or Pistol?
Reloaders,

I received a 5# can of Dupont Hi-Skor 700-X powder as a gift. I am setup to reload 22 Hornet, 223 Rem, 243 Win, 308 Win and possibly 9 mm. Is this powder suitable for any of these? Thanks in advance for any help.

According to the new IMR load manual, page 21, 4.7 gr 700X in a 9mm with 115 gr bullet will get you 1130 fps out of a 4" barrel.

700X is a fast burning pistol powder, almost in the Bullseye category. It can be used for reduced loads with lead bullets in .308 at about 5-7 gr, but don't expect very long range with it. Probably 50 yards at the max with any accuracy. I buy 110 gr Kead lead bullets for the M1 carbine to use in a .30-06 and I use 7 gr to push the bullet. It usually doesn't matter if it's Bullseye or 700X, I use both.

I use mine mostly for 44 specials, but I have heard of it being used in Hornets and in movie blanks. - Dan

The only possible use you have listed is the 9mm pistol.

Thank you for the info, guys. I shoot a 9mm but don't have dies, yet. I'm just getting started with the rifles. So, the powder isn't too useful to me now, but at least I know what the story is.

Thanks again,

I use 700X in several rifles.

I end up with with 1/4 the max powder weight. I also use light for caliber bullets. ie. a 125 grain bullet with 14 grains of 700X which gives 1800 fps in a 30-06.

This gives about 1/4 the energy (or 1/2 the max velocity). Accuracy is fine, but point of impact does change.
