I have a rifle chambered in 585 Nyati for which I will be putting together my first loads. I have some reservations on the strength of the ex military Mauser action used in the rifle so I don't want to exceed a peak pressure greater than 38,000 psi. I will be using Woodleigh 650 grain SP bullets and I would like to get as close to 100% case filling as possible. After subtracting the volume within the neck that the bullet will occupy, the remaining water capacity of the case is 152 grains. Any help will be much appreciated.

I would recommend IMR4350. I do not own a 585 Nyati though. If you have a water capacity of 152 grains the IMR4350 weight would be approximately 165 grains. A slower powder like IMR 7828 would also work if velocity is not your objective.

Thanks for your replies Casey, and Steve. I'm afraid that I could easily exceed the strength limitations of my rifle if I use IMR 4350. IMR 7828 would certainly be safe. Interestingly, 153 grains of Vv N560 fills my case up to the base of the neck. I'm kind of thinking that since I have some N560 on tap here, that I might try a reduced load of about 125 gr to start, and then work my way up to a load that gives about 2,000 fps with the 650 gr bullet.
