CH4 500 Jeffery Reloading Dies ?

Does anyone recommend using these to reload a 500 Jeffery with Jamison Brass? I have heard mixed reviews. I'd like to get some dies the price looks good $169 vs $400+ for Hornady, RCBS...

Brad,

The important point is the .500 Jeffery chamber deminsions. You want to match your die set to your chamber specifications. The correct sizing die will form the brass to your chamber. Coordinate ordering your die set with the person cutting your chamber. Off the shelf dies may or may not match the reamer.

I agree, chamber dimensions are very important, but there is only ONE set of dimensions...as determined by CIP in 2000...anthing else...you're on your own...Dave Davison makes dies to 2000 specs and Pacific makes chambering reamers and gages to 2000 specs

Wow, and I thought my custom made dies (Hornady, 100-120$) were rather expensive.... Just out of interest, what causes the .500 Jeffrey dies to be this expensive? Does the size of the case force you to use non-standard, outsize blanks or what??

Other than price, I have really enjoyed having dies made to match my chamber - or rather, made to size brass fired in your chamber a specific amount. It allows you to tailor your sized case to the chamber - taking into account reliability as well as minimal stress to the brass (minimal working). Hornady has made one set for me, and they are currently making a second. The finish is way beyond what Hornady produced in the past. I believe RCBS and Redding also offer this service - not knowing whether they can make a .500 Jeffrey die...

I've already spoken with Lonnie about the 500 Jeffery Dies he quoted me $380. The dies need to be 1" therefore everything inside them needs to be made custom, therefore they are much more expensive that the NL under.45 cal dies.
