What is your favorite .22-250 bullet and powder combination?

Bob in TXShark Bait,
My rifle really likes Varget. I get 1/2 MOA in 40, 50, and 55gr. bullets. I am just starting to play with the 60gr. Partitions. You just need to work up loads until you find what your rifle prefers. If you have R-15, W-748, IMR-4064, or H-380 try them and see how you do. The 22-250 is a very accurate round and not too difficult to load for with good results.
FYI-My coyote busting load is 35.5 grs. of Varget with the Sierra #1365 BTSP.
Good Luck,
Bob

ricciardelliUp until very recently my favorite powder has been H-380, with H-414 coming in second. I have just finished working up some loads using Varget, but haven't had a decent day to get to the range.
Favorite bullet is the Sierra 52 HPBT, and have been known to load some Sierra 55 SBT...

R FlowersWell David, for two of the 22-250's in my safe it is a clear cut preference for H 4895 behind a 55 grain moly coated Hornady V-Max.
But, for the latest 22-250 I just had built (Rem 700 action, fiberglass stock, Hart SS barrel, etc.) it is a tossup between Varget or N140 pushing a 50 grain non-coated Hornady V-Max. I have only 300 shots down that barrel and do not feel like putting moly in it just yet. This gun shoots those 50 grain V-Max much better than the Hornady A-Max match bullets or the Sierra match bullets.

<BigBob>SHARKBAIT,
I used a Sinclair case length gage to determine that the chamber of my rifle quite a bit longer than SAAMI specs. As a result I convert Winchester .243 to .22-250. This is the only way in which I could seat the bullets out far enough to seat just off the lands with a 55 grain Nosler. The .243 are also thick enough to allow outside neck turning that results in only .0015" smaller diameter of the neck, when a bullet is seated, than the diameter of the chamber area of the neck. The Redding competition neck sizing die makes it possible to size the necks with only two thousands reduction of the neck when sizing. I then uniformed the flash holes with a .081" drill bit, uniformed the primer pockets and deburred the interior flash hole. I then culled cases by weight. Cases used weigh 155.5 +/- .5 grains. I used several different powders and primer combinations and settled on 36.5 H-Varget, CCI BR2 primers and 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. Accuracy results were the average of five five shot groups. Extreme spread=26.2fps, STD DEV=13.3 fps, MAD=9.7fps, velocity=3748 fps, group size average was .174". This load is horrific on prairie dogs. It leaves them thete, there, there and way over there. Powders tried, and discarded were H-4350, H4895,IMR-4350 and W-748. Primers were CCI 200, Rem and federals. I've found that in cases of the capasity of the .308 all respond well to Varget. I hope that this is of some help. Good luck.

RK DeadeyeI like h-380 38 grains for 3500 fps in a 22 inch barreled Browning, and a 55 grain Nosler ballistic tip or Hornady V-max. Will shoot .3 to.5 in my gun.
36 gr of Varget and a Remington 55gr PSP or HPPL.
I have also used a 52gr HPBT and 34.1gr of IMR 4064. These loads are all inside 1/2" at 100 yards. I tried using Winchester 760 and got good groups but could not stop the odd flyer.

Brennanc909330.7 gr of Varget, 52 gr. Hornady BTHP. slow for the 250 but accurate!

TEANCUMMy Rem VSSF like 37.5g of Varget with a 50g Nosler BT.
Very accurate; checked it recently and it's in the .3's and .4's.

HomerOzG'Day Fella's,
I only have the AI version of the .22-250 but my favorite load for that chambering is>
36gr of ADI Bench Mark 2,
any 55grain bullet and CCI BR2 primer,
in Norma or Rem Cases.
Velocity is 3800fps and I shot a 5 shot, 100meter group that measured 0.200" center to center, the other day.
