<Dr. John>good loads for 303 brit?
anyone know of any good loads for the 303 brit SMLE? I am about to start reloading for my old rifle and was wondering if there were some good loads for deer hunting with improved accuracy? at the moment it probably shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards. can I improve on this? I have been using inexpensive factory ammo from winchester and federal with 180gr bullets. just wondering If I can do better?

jrslateDr. John,
There is nothing wrong with 1 1/2" groups in a SMLE. The winchester and federal factory ammunition has worked great for me on deer, elk, and bear. That being said, I have been loading for it for about 6 months, and the best load I have found was 43.7 gr. of Reloader 15 with Speer 180 gr. hot core bullets. I just got some 225 gr. bullets from Boer Bullets in Medford, OR, and I am really anxious to try them...

Bill LeeperCase full (47gr) of IMR4350 and a 180 works real well. I have also used 46gr 4350 with 215s with success. This in a #4 Lee Enfield. Regards, Bill.

Steve RedgwellI'd tread lightly with that 215 grain load. It's skirting the edge for pressure from a Lee Enfield. You'll want to watch closely when you reach 45 grains. Have fun!
