SaeedHunting Season, So I get A Break! 7.62 x 39 Data Added
People come to do work on their guns in my workshop, because I have all the equipment they might need.
So I have time to do some shooting.
Earlier this year I built myself a new 7.62 x 39 Russian.
I have built several before and all had good loads worked up for them.
This one I intend to try to test as many powders and bullets as I can.
Bullets I have plenty of choice.
Powders are a bit of limitation.
The case is small, so not many powders work even it.
I have finished shooting VVN 130 with many bullets.
I will post targets after the weekend.
Action is a Remington 700, barrel is Dan Lilja, finished at 26 inches.

RapidrobVV133 is a great powder for the '39 cartridge.
We only shoot the longer ranges here in my club, MN MILSURPS. With this powder out of a quality barrel be it on a AK47 or SKS or a 58, the accuracy at 500 meters is impressive using a 125 grain bullet.
Out of a bolt rifle the accuracy should be outstanding even out to 800 yards.

SaeedThe above are the results with VVN 130 and Reloader 7.
VVN 133is next.

crbutlerSaeed, as I understand it, the 7.62x39 is a .311 bore barrel, and it looks like you are mostly using .308 bullets.
Did you choose to use a .308 barrel instead, or are you getting those results with .308 bullets out of a .311 barrel?

SaeedI am using a standard 308 barrel.
On previous occasions, I have loaded 243 bullets in a 244 H&H Magnum, which uses 245 bullets.
Works great.
Also, I have run tests on bullets varying by several thousandth, and found that plus or minus 0.003 makes no difference whatsoever.

SaeedIt is 1:10.
And yes, the 174 are .311 and worked as you can see.
