Rem 222
What would be the best weight bullet for a 222
I have a Remington model 7 with 1/14 twist
and would like to keep fps up around 3300 fps .
Thanks Lightning93

I have two 222's (721 & 700). Both rifles love plain old Remington 50gr PHP's between 3200 & 3300 fps. Half inch groups are easy with both rifles and the right powder combo. I've used other 50 grainers as well, they group just as well but they cost more. In the right rifle with a good load, 222's are dead nuts accurate.

The good old .222 is a tack driver. With your twist and velocity requirements a bullet between 0.623" and 0.669" would be your best choice.

In my Remington in .222 I use IMR4198 20.5grs. with Nosler 50gr. Bal. Tips for 3200fps. Be careful trying to reach 3300fps. in a deuce. It's a small case, and you don't have to exceed max by more than about .2gr. to split that case in half. It's a great caliber, but like most of the little guys can be sensitive to the powder charge. Best wishes.

IMR 4198 would this be the best powder

Without starting a 'this bullet is better than that', has anyone tried 40gr Vmax with 21gr R7?

I was hoping to load this combination for fox.

In my 40x the test target loads were 23.5/IMR4895 with a 52 gr bullet groups were in the 2's. Another good load is 21.5/H-322. 3300fps is alittle stiff for the 222 with 50/52 grain bullets. I'v always shot either 50/52 gr bullets. I've also had good luck with V-133 and IMR8208. I keep putting it off but want to try some 45/40 gr bullets and see how they do in the 222. I picked up one of those win HV222 and still trying to get a good load work up for it. My other 2 custom 222 plus the 40x all shoot the same load but that win wants no part of that. Got your self a great round. Good Luck!

Nope but with 20.5-21gr of VVN120 that bullet will not exit a fox. Fine accuracy and devastating terminal performance

My light weight, modified Rem 600, (about 5 lbs.) likes thrives on 24 grs. of BL-C(2) with about any bullet..It also like H322....I like the 40 and 50 gr. Nosler Bal. Tips...A good 222 is not usually picky about powder or bullets....

Now that the new 40 gr bullets with excellent ballistic coeficients are available that's what I would try. It changes the trajectory for the better.

My first choice would be the Nosler BT.

I shoot a custom L46 Sako. All cases are FED match and primers are Fed 205M or Rem 6 1/2:
21.0 grs IMR 4198 50gr Sierra Blitz
20.5 grs IMR 4198 52gr Sierra hpbt

I also want to do some work with the newer 40 gr bullets.
