I'm sure von gruff who posts here will provide all the info you need for cast loads for the 404. I use his 350gr gas checked bullet and my own 400gr gas checked bullet with 63grs AR2209 (sold as H4350 in the USA). This load as developed by von gruff gives 1900fps in his 404 and just under that in mine. My 400gr load does 1800fps. I use a single wool wad over the powder and a CCI magnum primer, von gruff does not use any filler. VG can provide more info on other cast loads too.

A wonderfully wide ranging variety of loads work very well in my 404. From 1400fps through to 2437fps with my own design of 350gn GC bullet. Accuracy is not too bad with aperture sights from 55 yds.

This is the 1900fps load of 63gn H4350 - ADI 2209 with WLRM primer and no filler.

This is five shots with 87gn H4350 - ADI 2209 and Fed 215 for 2415 fps. It is a HT alloy and was not much faster or any more accurate than my standardised fast load now of 74gn Varget - ADI 2208 Fed 215 for 2363fps.

I found that the 63gn H4350 load to be the best velocity - accuracy for this particular bullet in not only my own 404 but at least 4 other 404's and a 10.75x68 that I have sent sample bullets to. In the particular testiing sessions with that combination I went from a low of 57gn through to 66gn but it didn't start showing promise till I got into the 61 gn mark and exited the window by 65gn.

Have a wonderfull 1400fpc plinking load with 20.5 gn Red Dot and any standard LR primer. Red Dot is not position sensative and needs no filler. More than adequate plinking accuracy an has been very effective on a recent goat hunt where it accounted for a number of them. This is what is takes out the far side of a goat after pasing through.
