270 Win, Varget, and Ballistic Silvertip
Looking for a load for the Combined Technologies 130gr Ballistic Silvertip out of a plane jane 270 Win. with Varget.

The Hodgon manual says the max load is 46 grains, but this is with a regular copper plated bullet, not the lubalox coated.

Thanks!

Don't count on the lubalox making a difference.
If you have a chrono and other 130 bullets assemble some identically and see if there is a speed difference. Maybe....just a guess...maybe the lubalox will be 30-50 fps slower with identical charge but I wouldn't count on it. Probably equal to .5 to 1.0 grain of powder if at all.

Not that you can't cobble together a serviceable load with Varget in the .270, but it is somewhat too fast to be an optimum powder. I would suggest that you move up to the range of the 4831's, RL 22, 7828, etc.

Reloader 22 does look good for this caliber. I'm using Varget for my 7mm-08, so I was hoping to be able to use it for the 270 as well.

Hell, I'll just get a pound of Reloader 22.

Thanks!

I have had great results with IMR 4831 and H4350, (havent tried H4831 yet). RL 22 has to be too compressed for me to used comfortably.
Just my $.02
