hivelosityno its a 223 measured at the base. not a boattail. the core does not appear to be lead.
all most looks and feel like alumminum.
I,ll get another picture of the mushroom.
Dave

after close examination it does appear to be a 243

longest bt I ever saw

fredj338Well it can't be a 223 @ 100gr? So this is someone elses bullet you pulled from a doe you shot? If so, good reason to NOT use a small bores for deer w/ that shot presentation. Not necessarily a bad hit but the wrong bullet/caliber choice for the shot taken.

Hot CoreGreat Mushroom, but I wonder why it didn't Kill on a Chest shot. Should have penetrated easily.
Huuuuuummmmm.... Surely not a Reduced Load so a 2-year old can go Hunt???
Yup, that would be my guess!

JLarssonIf the OP found this bullet (not his) in a deer he killed, is it possible that the bullet passed through another deer first? That might account for the almost no penetration and perfect mushroom.
I think if a reduced load were used such that it only penetrated that far, the bullet would not have mushroomed like that.

Ol` JoeA 100 gr .224" bullet should penitrate like no-bodies business. I have never heard of one that heavy though, 80gr yes, 100gr no......
