Hi I'm having some problems with a powder charge.

The following is what I'm loading with:

1. 95 grain round nose bullet

2. Alliants' "Unique powder"

3. Lyman 48th edition on reloading

4. Mixed brass all 380acp

The problem I'm having is the charge for the 380
in Lymans for a 95 grain bullet shows a
charge range from 2.6 grains to 3.2 grains.

Now looking on the alliants charge table shows
a range of 3.8 to 4.2 grains.

I have checked other sources on the web an they
have me leaning towards the 3.8 to 4.2 grains.
Seems that it is a large differance from Lyman
tables.

If someone out there can steer me in the right
direction,

For your load (95gr bullet),and Unique

Speer 11th: 3.6-4.0

Lyman 47th: 2.3-3.1

Hodgdon 26th: 3.7-4.0 (90gr bullet)

It's almost like take your pick, but I think I would use Alliant's data.

Check the data - is it for copper jacketed or cast lead bullets? Generally - use less powder for the same weight jacketed bullets.

I have always used 90-95 gr. cast bullets in the 380 with 3.5 to 4.0 of Unique.

Most loading manuals differ differant years from the same company differ. I compare 4 or5 pick a good middle of the road charge and go from there.

Just started loading 380 myself and decided to use Unique powder and a charge of 2.8 GR. with 95 gr. jhp's. Seems to be doing well in my PPK/S, friends Grendel, and dad's N.A. guardian.

Thanks for all the information you gentlemen have provided. I will start with 2.8 grains and work a load up to a safe pressure.

3.2 grains without case and primer damage.

With a 90-95 grain projectile you should be fine with Unique 3.5- as 4.0 is Max load .

Speer #11 . My Speer # 9 list Unique with a 4.6 Max load .

Powders have changed burn rates pressures have varied , so error on the side of caution .

Work up . I loaded several boxes with Herco at a safe level 15-20 years ago and have been shooting them

up ; Cases have nearly all split and the charge was well with in limits ,age of brass or number of

reloads ?.I've been firing them out of the same Walther I've always used accuracy is still spot on .
