45 Colt- one powder

I've got a Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt on the way.

I also have a supply of 255gr and 300gr hard cast bullets.

I'd like to use one powder to load for this revolver, to simplify things.

Hodgon or IMR powders woudl be ideal, as they are easy to locate around here, Alliant powders are available, but less so. I rarely see other brands of powders, but they coudl be ordered.

Any suggestions?

I am going to argue with using LP mag primers! Most of those powders do not need it and pressures and accuracy will go to pot. I never use a mag primer in the .44 mag or .45 Colt even with 296 because it triples group size.
Stay away from them until the ball powders are used and then test one against another. I am sure accuracy will improve with standard primers.
Those that say they must be used do not know what accuracy is.

I always liked WW 231 for light to medium loads in the 45 Colt.

I like Unique for everything from 200gr-300gr. Universal is very close in burn rate & would be a likely replacement.

IN my 45 Long Colt, I have used both Unique and Blue Dot..

Blue Dot was much more accurate, but don't interpret that as Unique being bad....

It is just great accuracy with Unique and fantastic accuracy with Blue Dot..

mine strictly shoots 255 grain Cast lead bullets from the Oregon Lasercast Bullets...
and CCI large pistol primers...

For my wimpy brother I load 300 gr cast 6 gr Unique and he makes tiny groups with his old S&W 1917.
We tried allot of other bullets and powders, but that is the most accurate.

For myself, I like 250 gr XTP H110 or LIL'GUN, and I make big recoil.

For little bullets ~255 gr at SAA speeds I use WW231 or Unique. For hunting bullets >300 gr I use H110 (and will try Lil'Gun when I need more powder).

I wish my Colt SAA would give me "great" and "fantastic" accuracy! My cylinder throats are grossly oversized. A .454" dia. bullet will drop clean through out the front of the cylinder.

Are you using .452" or .454" bullets?

I use 19.0 of lil gun, fed mag primers with 300 grain cast or XTPs. the cast run 1287fps and the xtps 1150fps. accuracy is 2" or less @50yds. this is out of a 7.5 redhawk. h.h.
