Problems -- New Uncoated WLP Winchester Primers
I recently bought a brick of the new WLPs that are uncoated. I loaded up a LOT of .45 Colt loads (my usual recipe) and, over the course of a weekend's worth of shooting at one of my CAS matches, I had one complete dud (with a heavily-dented primer) and one round that finally went off after a second chance. (Such things aren't great when you're on the clock.) I mentioned this to a couple of guys at my local gun store and a couple of patrons mentioned they'd heard of similar problems with the "new" WLPs. I'm tempted to set these off to the side and switch to an equivalent Federal primer... but I thought I'd inquire if any of you have had, or heard of, similar problems with these new primers.

I've been using the "new" Winchester primers in both large and small pistol as well as large rifle. I have had no problems...

I'm in the same camp as Ricciardelli, many hundreds fired without anything but a most satisfying roar.

I have used both with no problems from either.

Well, regardless of the overwhelming "I ain't ne'er had no problems with 'em" posts... I'm switching to Federal 150s. I just read a couple of posts elsewhere on the Internet, in response to my dilemma, and it is apparently enough of a problem that others are experiencing the same thing. I never, ever, had a problem with the "old" WLPs... but in the first brick of the "new" ones I've ever bought, I've had one dud and one second-chance, and I'm not even halfway through the damn brick yet.

Need Just 1 More Gun
Russell,

Would you consider posting the lot # of the primers, so that others on the board can be forewarned of potential problems with the primer batch?

Thanks,

Steve
