Powder for 9mm & .45 Auto?
I have been loading Alliant Power Pistol for a few years and get good accurate loads, but the muzzle flash is very bright and distracting. Are there other powders that work well in the 9 and the 45 with jacketed bullets? I usually load 124 grn FMJ's in the 9 and 230 FMJ's in the .45--thanks for the help

N E 450 No2If I could only pick one powder for them it would be Unique.
But I am old school...

DoublessI really like Accurate Arms #5. It is AA's (now part of Western Powder...)equivalent to Unique: approximately one grain slower than Unique generally speaking, and flows like water out of my Uniflo.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have Unique and have used it for years in cast bullet/revolver loads, but have never used it much in jacketed bullet/auto loads. I am going to try it. And I'll get some Accurate #5 too.
Thanks again.

Antelope SniperOn the advice of several memebers of this forum, I tried AA#5 in my 9mm.
I was not disappointed. Accuracy, velocity, and metering are all excellent.

SR4759What do you want the powder to do?
Paper punching moderate velocity or a max load?
High or low volume loading?
Accurate charging with a measure?
Economy of charge weight?
Fill the case so it will not double charge?

I'm looking for close to max velocity loads with 9mm 124 grn & 230 grn .45 and would like a powder that meters well. I load on a single stage Rockchucker and and I'm not overly concerned about getting the most economical powder, but don't like VV prices and can't find them around here anyway. Thanks for the interest--Semper Fi
