Aaron B.454 Proof Loads
I'm looking for proof loads for a 454 to test some of my creations. Most people are rather tight-lipped about this subject. I would like info to load some including pressures or the actual loads themselves. And no, I'm not stupid enough to be aroud when they go off.
Any info would be of great help,
if you don't want to post this info e-mail me at bloomya@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Aaron

YardbirdGo over to shootingforums.com, part of the beartooth bullets page, and look for a guy by the call sign of DOK. He doesn't hunt, but he shoots a hell of a lot and takes quite a bit of flack for pushing the envelope, especially with revolvers. He might be able to help you out.

ClarkIf one goes to beartooth and does a search on the word "proof' and the author "Dok" one will find Dok asking the question about the strength of the 45Colt brass.
When I posted data on that subject, here is the reaction I got:
"...In the future, refrain from posting data in excess of established pressure perameters, and particularly any references to your pratices of intentional firearm blow-ups!
If these simple requests seem too much or too confining for your tastes, then I suggest you perhaps establish your own website for posting of such materials. Most ISP providers offer free 10-25 meg personal website space on their servers, and Domain Names are relatively inexpensive... 8.95 right now at
www.10-domains.com. May I pass along a suggested possible URL for your site...

<eldeguello>While it may be possible to load a proof load with existing commercially available powders and projectiles, it is NOT a recommended procedure for plain old handloaders. If you have a .454-chambered gadget you want to test, why can't you just fire like 20 rounds of Max loads, and see how it holds up??

ClarkThere is a major rifle manufacturor that uses Quickload for proof loads.
But genrally, eldeguello is right, talking about proof loads on a handloading forum is like talking to babies about sex. [ask me how I know]

recoiljunkySorry you got all that flack Aaron. I think it's a reasonable topic. Let us know what you find out.

CMcDermottYou can try to contact Winchester (Olin, not U.S.R.A.C.); they have made 454 proof loads in the past; but unless you have a firearms manufacturing license of some sort they will probably tell you that they won't sell any to you.

Aaron B.We do have a calss 2 manufacturer liscense but are still having a little trouble getting the info. I agree that a public forum is not the best place for this info, that's why I posted my e-mail.
Thanks guys,
Aaron
