vinesTHE RELOADING PAGE ON THIS FORUM
I was looking over some reloading data on the 'reloading page' on this forum, and noticed that some of the loads are HOT! some of these are real hot compared to some of my reloading manuals. Some of the loads are as much as 3 to 4 grains over max from my books. 2 of my books have listed as 39.5 max. the reloading page has 43.0 max. and 1 load is showing 49 max. my book is showing 46.5 max. Some of the loads are real close thou.

mike_elmerVines, ALWAYS keep in mind 2 things when if comes to the max loads of others... how does it work in THEIR rifle... and how much do you value YOUR face... LOL!!
If I must go over the max load in any of the 3 manuals I use for reference, I might as well just find another powder and start over,... or get over myself with the "High Velocity/Hot Load" obsessions.
It is a rare instance when I cannot find a load that is well within recommended criteria, and shoots well, to boot.

SR4759Some guys version of working up a load is to increase the load until a primer is blown then back off one or two grains. Not exactly safe practice but they can brag about how fast they go.

Exactly!!! Some times they come in here and want to know what is the hardest primer so's they can keep on dumping in powder.

Mike MichalskiNever could understand the need for "HOT" loads in the first place. Unless the need to be the first guy to wear out a barrel or have bullets tear themselves apart spinning too fast.

wasbeemanbut Mike, don't you realize that if your bullet is going an extra 100fps, it is ever so much more letal. A 165gr 30-06 bullet at 2800fps will bounce off of a deer where as one going 3100fps will kill it, skin it, and cut it up into packages ready for freezing. And, don't forget that it shoots ever so much flatter so's you can make those long shots.

Yup, and they learned all about reloading on the internet. Hell, you don't even need a manual.
