Elk Country30-06 Ackley loads wanted
I took the plunge and dropped off my Remington 700BDL ant the 'smith and am having it rebarreled (24" Rem 721)and chambered for the above. I an keeping the original barrel just in case! I am interested in RL22, H4831, RL19 with 180gr.bullets mostly as this will be primarily an elk rifle, but I am open to any loads that you are using in the field.
Thanks alot for all of the past advice from Ramrod340. If the Ackley doesn't work then I am definately doing the Gibbs!
Thanks in advance,
Elk Country

<BigBob>ELK COUNTRY,
I'm sorry, my load info is a little old and doesn't include the powders you listed. Of the two improved cases you refer to Ilike the Ackley better than the Gibbs. With the Ackley, cases are formed simply by firing '06 ammo. Gibbs requires a lot more work. The method I used way back then, was to form .35 Whelen from '06s then form to the Gibbs case. The haed space was taken on the .35 W. shoulder. Here are the loads listed in the #5 Speer manual.
150 grain bullets.
Start load=60.0 max. load=64.0-H-4831
Start=56.0. Max=60.0--IMR 4350
Start=48.0. Max=52.0--IMR 4320
165 grain bullet.
Start=59.0 Max=63.0--H 4831
Start=55.0 Max=59.0--IMR 4350
180 grain bullet
Start=57.0 max=61.0 H-4831
Start=53.0 max=57.0 IMR-4350
200 grain bullet
Start=56.0 Max=60.0 H-4831
Start=51.0 max=55.0 IMR-4350
This old manual shows loads hotter than todays manuals, so start low. I hope that this is of some help. Good luck.
