.45 ACP with Trail Boss
Since I had to buy so much Trail Boss last summer to load sub-sonic 300 BLK and .223, I've been on the prowl, so to speak for other loads for this powder.

One I have research is for .45 ACP. I have a NATO standard 1911. I've loaded 3.8 gr Trail Boss, 200 gr Missouri RN lead. 1.205 OAL, new Starline brass, CCI #300 large pistol primers. So far out of 3 magazines I've had no failure to fee, eject, or fire. It is a consistent chronograph 668-676 fps. I was kind of surprised at the consistent fps. It is a real soft recoil round I could shoot all day, even with my somewhat arthritic hands. Accuracy is on par with my skill level.

This amount of TB doesn't fill up the case so there is no packed powder issue.

Good to know. I have been looking for Trailboss for my 416 Rigby, but none to be found. Some will turn sooner or later.

Ok there are many pistol powders that well do the same thing.

Unless you have some trail boss to use up what's the advantage?

That is the reason. I'm down to one pound of HP-38, about the same for Unique, and two pounds of Bullseye. Maybe to much Trail Boss would be a good reason to get a Colt SAA Big Grin

Nearly any reason is a good reason to get another SSA. The only warning is DO NOT compress Trail Boss.
