GSP7Crappy lot of winchester 308 brass
Kinda sucks , On second fireing of some new unprimed winchester 308 brass I got several cracks in the middle of the neck. At $20 for a bag of 50 pieces , that sucks. I anneled what was good only after 2 fireings and Ill see how the rest do.
Might have to get some lapua 308 brass next time

hivelositycurious? Did you measure any for thickness?
i had some that split after 3 firings and I had turned the necks just enough to true them up.
after i anneiled the necks I only got 4 more reloads and then tossed it.
I thought it may have been caused by turning.
But the next batch turned necks is still going after 7 reloads and 1 anneling

GSP7No turning. I got these short cracks in the midsection of the neck. Almost looks like impuritys in the brass. Kinda like srinkage cracks. Not thin in wall thickness. The stuff is just briddle crap
Some other new WW 8x57 brass I just bought had creases in some of the necks brand new. I sized them into 9.3x57
Some WW 3006 brass I have got 8 reloads on so far, and still looking good, other lots are just crappy looking brand new.

ireload2Mail that crap back to Olin and let them replace it.

An alternative.
I bought a 1,000 once fired Fed 308s from the Brassman for $80.00 plus shipping.
I use them in an AR10.
I get 5 to 7 reloads and scrap them.

smedleyOut of most of the posts I have seen refering to neck splits, "Winchester's" name seems to be the one common denomenator.
I got some 338 that I FL sized the first time and then necked 2 more times before they started splitting.

308SakoI've got to agree about the splits being more common with the Winchester brand. Has anyone experienced a lumpyness in the neck area? Best way to describe bumps felt by the expanding ball.

duikermanGSP7,
You remind me of a story:
A guy came upon another man with his ear to a tree and hugging it. He inquired as to what he was listening to and the other man said "to the music".
The man asked if he could listen too and upon getting permission to listen he too, stuck his ear to the tree where upon the other man quickly handcuffed him to the tree, removed all his clothes, stole all his money and abscounded.
Several minutes later a gay man came by and seeing the man handcuffed to the tree and naked he asked how it happened. After listening to how it happened he softly kissed the man behind the ear and said "this just isn't going to be your day is it cupcake"!

Paul BIt's not just Winchester brass that's been crappy lately. I bought 500 rounds of Winchester Power point 150 gr. 7MM bulk bullets for my 7x57 and they are just plain shit. After fighting with them trying to get a decent group, I finally took 100 at random and weighed them. They ranged from 149.0 gr. to 151 gr., an amount I find totally unacceptable. They won't even give "hunting accuracy".

Paul, Thunder mt. has Speer 7mm, 150gr, hot cores on sale for $65.00/k. I'm using them in three of my 7mm s and they are doing just fine.

I wonder if your lot was seconds or culls.
I got a lot of Winchester 243 100 grain Power points once and they varied a lot.... the point profile, nose length and cannelure location were visibly different.

krakyStay away from Graffs brass. I like Graffs alot but the stuff that got sold to them is very strange. It is way "thicker" in every dimension than normal American brass. It wouldn't even chamber in my gun without a resize and it took 2 grains less powder to match win loads in my .308.
