Uniform or Just Clean Primer pocket?

Do you uniform or just clean your primer pockets?

Also do you de-bur the flash hole?

In over 30 yrs I have only cleaned the primer pocket and never had a problem. Don't debur flash holes either. Never saw one with a burr in it.
I am sure you will different opinions but for me it is a waste of time to uniform a primer pocket and debur a flash hole.

For the loads I use in competition I do both, for hunting loads I do not.

For Varmint loads I debur the flash holes.

On Benchrest loads I debur and uniform.

Guess I'll be the odd man out. I've uniformed the primer pockets and deburred the flashholes on my hunting cases. My reason for the extra work is to ensure proper ignition of the charge while hunting in all sorts of weather. By uniforming the primer pockets, I've got that sucker seated evenly to absorb every bit of that firing pin's punch. When the primer fires, the removal of the usual burr and the chamfer on the flashhole ensure the flame acts as it should in igniting the powder charge.
Yeah, maybe this is being a little anal, but I've never had a misfire or a hangfire while hunting since I've done this. Plus, it gives me a little piece of mind and confidence in my ammo.

prof242, I do the same as you. I've seen/removed a LOT of burrs from the flash hole. Deburring is a once only operation, so I figure it's worth it once around anyway. I use a Sinclair uniformer, cause that is just as easy as using a brush and cleaning them, I keep the uniformer chucked up in a cordless drill, and in a couple of seconds, the pocket is cleaned AND uniformed.

I just started deburing the flash hole but still only clean the primer pocket. Only because I have not got the tool for the primer pocket yet. That is on the list though.

Not wanting to insult anyones favourite manufacturer, but I find a lot of burrs in U.S. manufactured brass, far less in Lapua brass. I tend to give all new brass the full once-over - uniforming primer pockets and deburring flashholes.

I have been told the Lapua brass flash hole is drilled and not "punched" and lot less if any burrs to worry about. I can say the Lapua brass is without the best brass I have ever used and get many, many firings out of their 308 brass. Norma brass is about a one trick pony based on my experience. Couple shots and the primer pockets are way out of spec and same for Federal. It is indeed rare to see an experienced shooter using either the Norma or the Federal for those reasons.

Hey Ted, I do both as well. In fact, I do a full Case Prep and weight sort the cases.

Helps build confidence in the Final Load.

Good hunting and clean 1-shot kills.
