F.C. MooseStuck Shells
I had a problem with my RCBS loading die. It is a full size resizing die for a .308 and the bullet got stuck. The case is stuck about 1/3in out of the die and we cant seem to get the thing out of there. Any suggestions would be greatly admired. Thanks

DutchGoodness, I hope that was a typo. "The BULLET got stuck"?
If it isn't a typo, I really don't want to know, I think..... FWIW, Dutch.

smitheyYes we need more information, is this a primered, powdered, bullet round that is stuck??????????? If so you should call RCBS for help, they are good people to deal with..

ricciardelliYou actually tried to do a full-length resize on a loaded cartridge?
Or are simply not familiar with terminology?

F.C. MooseThis is just the caseing, it is not loaded or primed just the brass

ricciardelliPut the die and the case in your freezer and leave it there overnight. You should be able to remove the case in the morning with very little effort.
Next time, use lube...

murftjYou can also purchase a tap and die set for this very problem from most sporting goods stores. I think RCBS might even manufacture one. You end up ruining the case, but at least it saves your die.

CossackNever tried the freezer thing. Good idea Steve.
Not unusual. RCBS makes a Stuck Case Remover for just that sort of thing. Less thn $20.00 as I recall. Happens from not lubing thoroughly.

Maltese FalconThe RCBS Stuck case remover is a godsend

and should be part of any starting reloaders kit.
I speak from experience of course and had just happened to have seen the kit on sale when I was buying powder and that weekend....well you know

hawkinsDrill out the primer, and tap for a 1/4 x20 thread. Use a socket against the base and turn a screw into the case. It will pull out. This is very similar to the $20 case remover.
First try the freezeer trick. Second buy some
Imperial Die Wax and throw the stuff your using away.
Good luck1

F.C. MooseI tryed freezing it and tryed to pull it with two plyers but it wouldnt budge. Any suggestions on it should i vice it and try pulling it out or should i just drill the back out of it?

F.C.Moo,
If the freezer trick did not work then you really do need to purchase an RBCS Stuck Case Remover Set, they're not expensive and should be part of your reloading kit anyway, just in case.....
In my experience anything less may possibly damage the die.
cheers,

Terry BlauwkampIf you use a "common" 1/4-20 screw, you will likely strip off the threads. Get a hard Grade 8 screw, and then have no problem.
