TrophyShotPrintsLil Gun Powder and 44 Rem Mag...
I want to reload for a Marlin 1894SS 44RM...
I have heard of several reloaders who have used Hogdon's LiL Gun Powder...
Does anyone have a Pet Load for a 240gr JSP for my 44Mag?
Thank you...

Jay GorskiI load 24grs H110/296, Fed 155 primers, Rem. brass. Lil'gun should work fine also. Work up to 24.5grs of it and let us know how it performs. Jay

tnekkccI have been shooting 24 gr H110/W294, 240 gr JHP in the 44 mag revolver and 44 mag rifle for 10 years. No reason to change.
LIL'GUN would be 24.5 gr per Hodgdon, but I would use 24 gr.

wrongtargetHodgdon doesn't list Lil'gun for use in the rifle, just the pistol.

bfrshooterI tried Lil'Gun in the .357 and worked the whole range of loads and bullets. I never got good accuracy, decent maybe, but what bothered me was after 5 shots I could not touch the barrel. You could solder with it. There were no pressure signs and loads were under max. I had to wait 15 minutes between each 5 shots.
This kind of heat generated in a fine barrel does not sit well with me so the rest will be used in the .410.

They don't list LIL'GUN for 357 mag 158 gr LSWC.
I wrote them and asked why not. I shoot it all the time.
They said they were worried the base of the bullet would melt.

Fed 155 always!

bfrshooterJay, not so unless the weather is extremely cold. I have used nothing but the Fed 150 in the .44 and .45 with 296 forever.
In every test since 1956, the mag primer has tripled group size.
I can only tell you to make your own side by side tests and not just do what the books say.

Jay GorskiIf im not mistaken I think we went thru this argument a few years ago regarding primers. I tried the 150s in my Redhawk and the accuracy wasnt as good as with the 155s, do believe I did post my results way back when, too. Ill stick with the 155s for now.
