WillltillLongevity of tumbling media?
I picked up a 25lb bag of crushed walnut from Petsmart today. How long do you all reuse your crushed corncob or crushed walnut media? How many shells can you clean on a single bowlful of tumbling media? Right now I have about 500 shells of .50 cal that I want to tumble (vibrate). I have a Lyman tumbler/vibrator and I have been using the Lyman corncob media that I bought with it.
Kindest Regards,

billtI only use ground corn cob. I change it when it starts to look dirty, or when I start getting a lot of dust off the stuff when I open the lid. Corn cob is cheap enough where it isn't a big cost concern. When you clean out the tumbler and load it up with clean media and fresh polishing liquid the brass really comes out nice! Bill T.

Have had it in the vibrator for about 6 years. Just keep adding a little from time to time.Never gets very dirty.

Some people may find that hard to believe.

Nope Mine has been in there that long. Add a little for loss and some more polish now and then.

Bobby TomekOne of my tumblers has had basically the same media for nearly 4 years. My m/o is much like that of the above posters: add a bit when necessary. For me, it's worked just fine.
I have an older tumbler, though, that seems to break down the media and cause more dust. I am assuming it is due to the unit vibrating at a higher speed. In it, I do change the media after every 3-4 times.

Jim C. <><The media itself lasts a very long time.
When your media starts looking dark, toss in a paper towel cut into 4 to 8 squares. The smallish particles of dirty stuff gets clogged in the fibers for removal.

That's the ticket and I do it every time. Lately I've been using my wife's dryer sheets. Really great and eleminates a lot of static.
