Can I use magnum small pistol primers in place of standard ones...
...for small caliber guns safely? Like .32 auto for instance. Running out of small pistol but have a brick of magnums aging on the shelf.

As long as you work up to the load with the magnum primers, it's not an issue.

Don't just dump a max load of powder in the case and use a magnum primer. Use the starting load but substitute the magnum primer and work your way up.

+1 to above.

I did just that during the primer shortage using Russian large pistol magnum primers in my .45 Colts and .45 ACPs.

I ended up with the same loads but reduced to minimum and worked up.
