I have found 180 gr .308 NPs out of my Mdl 70 30-06 @ 2800 FPS to be a stellar performer both in accuracy and just plain ole laying the "Smack Daddy" into anything I've shot them into. Yet when loaded in my Mdl 70 300 Win Mag @ 3150 FPS it is nearly impossible to hold a 2" group @ 100yds.
Has anyone found a good load for this bullet in excess of 3000 FPS in their Mdl 70...I just bought a last minute cancellation rifle hunt for moose and would like to take this rifle, if it works out I may take it along for PG as a backup to my bow next year in Namibia. Cats

Every rifle seems to be unique but H-1000 in a max load works extremely well for me with the 180NP or SAF. Also of course try changing your seating depth as the 300 may have a much longer throat than the '06.

Cats, It's the barrel not the bullet which determines accuracy, and velocity may or may not be a partial issue based on stability. Generally the velocities you mention indicate maximum loads for the respective cartridges. I've had good luck with IMR 7828 and FULL loads in the .300 Winchester while using Federal 215's. Though others love IMR 4350 and 4831. Even with the less than pinpoint accuracy I would hpoe that you will consider the enormous size of the Moose and his vitals...

Try different seating depths.

yup those moose are some big critters, I've killed a few over the years.
I sized a dummy round and closed the bolt to to "seat" the bullet, set depth on my die and loaded 10 rounds. I'm going to shoot them this afternoon to see if that makes a difference. Using 4350 64.0 gr

Ok I'm back, I shot they grouped little bigger than 1" @ 100. Thanx for the advice about not seating them as deep as I was.

Cats, a little time goes by and now I remember a super accurate load from many years ago. It was with the now defunct 200 grain Partition which had a rounder profile and the charge was 66 grains of IMR 4350, F215, Win brass and seated for magazine operation in a Ruger 77R. This load shot one hole at 200 yards, I was amazed!
