I picked up a pretty little Sako Model 85 in .260 Remington for my daughter (who is still in diapers <img src="https://forums.accuratereloading.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="Big Grin" width="15" height="15"><!--graemlin::D--> ). I want to load her up a pile of ammo, write a nice letter to her, and store it all with the rifle. [Just in case something were to happen to me before she becomes old enough to enjoy it; hopefully not!]<BR><BR>Don't worry, there will be a mountain of BBs, .22 LR, and many reduced loads prior to her shouldering the .260 Rem. so long as I'm still around.<BR><BR>Anyway, I want to load some North Fork soft points for it. I voted 120s. Load what you want but for me in a 260 NorthForks are overkill

Either Northfork will work splendidly!
I would suggest getting the Northfork that you can match w/ a cheaper (practice) bullet. I loaded a 250 for a friends child. 100g Speers w/ blue primers for practice, 100g NPs w/ red primers for deer.

Thank you both for the responses. And thanks to the others who voted. I plan to first find a hunting bullet that shoots well first and then finding a practice bullet that shoots to the same point should be the next step.

And, Ramrod, as far as overkill goes, my wife recently had me legally change my middle name to "Capt. Overkill". It seems fitting.

I think a shooter should use the bullet he wants as long as the quality lives up to the purpose.

How boring would it be if we all used the same thing. Everyone agree??????

I happen to think the NorthFork is an excellent bullet. I have no experience with it in something like the 260. So my question is does a bullet that performs well with 264Wmag and 6.5STW type velocities perform just as well at 260 velocities?

For my $$ using that quality of bullet in a 260 is like paying to blueprint the engine in the car that is only driven to the store. Does it work absolutely Is that quality needed nope.

As I said I think a shooter should use whatever bullet he/she wants as long as the quality meets the purpose. Would something like the Accubond work just as well for anything you would use the 260 on? Sure. Along with any number of other bullets. Is there anything wrong with using the Northfork? Nope as long as it functions at 260 velocities.

As to the original idea I think it is fantastic and a sweet looking rifle. My kids had little interest in shooting. Now I'm working on the grandkids. Thank goodness the Son in law likes to shoot. Matter of fact the granddaughter will be getting her 22lr for Christmas.

I'd load up some Barnes bullets instead. By the time your daughter grows up, it wouldn't surprise me if lead bullets are banned for hunting by the Feds.

i have shot the .260 rem. for about 6 or so years now, i think it is one of the best rounds going for deer size game, i dont know about a childs load. but i load 46.0 grs of H-4350 and a 120 Nosler Ballistic Tip

I built a 260 AI several years ago and it has become my gun of choice for the light stuff. I use 120 gr Barnes TSX, 120 gr Nosler BT and 100 gr CEB ESP Raptor in it. All shoot great and kill well.

Great points by all. Thank you for the advice. I guess I do have some Barnes on hand that I could load up. And I have some ballistic tips too (both for the 6.5x347mm Lapua project underway).

Hmmmm... outlawing of lead certainly is a possibility with the way all the left-wing whackos are steering things.
