280ai 168 grain loads
have a 280 ackley improved on a remington 700 bdl action and stock with a schillen 28" match grade barrel fully floated with a 1 in 9 twist[it has been shot in with a few hundred rounds], want to build a load for long range shooting and hunting. I am using berger VLD 7mm 168 Grain match grade bullets with a BC of .643 if anybody has worked up a load for this I would appreciat the info., before I buy 20 different kinds of powder an primers. Thanks dep in montana/USA

While I have not used the 168 berger I have loaded a lot for the 280AI and my larger 280PDK wildcat. My go to powder was MRP and now RL-22.

As usual just my $.02

I would try RL22 or RL25. Either works well in my 280AI with the 160 gr Accubonds. Federal 215 magnum primers, 215M's if you can get them.

havnt tried the 168gr VLDs yet. but have used 162gr A-maxs with good success.

59gr of VV N-560
nosler cases and federal primers
changing to CCI primers because ive run out of federals and got heaps of CCIs on hand so be interesting to see how they go

I think your best bet would be VV-N560, RE-22 first, then 19 then 25

Nosler brass. My rifle has a .310 neck so I have to turn the cases first. I use Fed match primers.

Mike------- fired 6 rounds with your load except used cci bench primers and remington brass[since I have a lot of it.] through the chronograph at 10 feet from end of barrel to the moddle of the chronograph I came up with a average of 2855 fps. havent had a chance to try it for accuracy since the cheat grass is headed out and I don't want to burn the place to the ground anyway I loaded up 6 rounds with accurate 3100 to try through th chronograph I can fire them behind th e shop but te range is out in the pasture,,,,let you know thanks Dave.....
Mike fired 6 rounds of accurate 3100 it came in at 2863 virtually th same, now I need to find out which is more accurate. Dave
