paulhed222 rem case problem
Hi all
I have just started to reload 222 rem for my tikka m55. I reloaded 40 cases and thought everything was ok until checking them when all done when i noticed the shoulder had flared a bit on 7 of them so much so i could not chamber them. It is like i have exerted to much pressure when seating the bullet but i dont think i did. I am using lee dies remington brass and hornady 50 grain soft point bullets so could anyone shed some light on why this might be happening.
Thanks paulhed

trshepTry backing your seater die out about a turn. It sounds like you are trying to crimp with no place to go.

Will try that but someone told me you have to give 222rem a good inside shamfer is that right. noteing that i have reloaded thousands of 25-06 cases without problem.
Cheers paulhed

ireload2If your expander is the right size (about .223) the .222 seats like any other bottle neck round.
Like trshep said it has to be the crimp shoulder unless you are using the Lee collet sizer die.
