good metering powder sugestions for .223
Hi guys,

I am trying to develop loads for a .223 AR15. I have tried Benchmark and Varget, and in my opinion both meter poorly. I am also trying to load these in volume so hand weighing each charge is not an option. Any suggestions?

Thanx,
Mark

My favorite powder for the .223 is Hodgdon BL-C(2). It is a ball powder so it meters well.

W748, H335, and BL-C2 meter very well. I thought the Benchmark metered OK. What powder measure are you using?

AA2230, although I seem to bet better accuracy with Varget.

When I was loading for the 223, I liked W748.

25.5 grains of BLC-2 under a 55 grain boat tail works for me !.

Any ball powder will meter well. What problem did you have with Benchmark? I use it in my 223, and one of the reasons why is it meters as well as ball over all for me. Accuracy is good and velocity par with most other powders I`ve tried.

the problem with benchmark is that is still has that log shape. most throws are accurate, but about 1 in five end up cutting a log and jiggling the powder measure and making the load a few tenths heavier.
