Trimmer pilot won't insert into 380 Auto case
Trimmer pilot won't insert into 380 Auto case
I called Hornady this afternoon because Hornady trimmer pilot #15 will fit into a 9mm case, but I will not insert into a .380 Auto case.
The tech asked me if I resized before trimming and I say "Yes". He said that was the problem. Resizing made the case too small.
I thought it was a common practice to resize then trim, am I wrong?

That's true as a general rule but we do what we gotta do. It's really not critical, especially with handgun stuff.

Hunt-ducksWhat DIA. pilot are you using? a 380 is not .356 or .358.
And yes I resize first the pilot should be finished size DIA. of any caliber.
I load .355 Dia into the 380, same as in the 9mm. Matter of fact, I load 115 gr into both the 380 and the 9mm.
At first, I thought the 115 gr would be too massive, but I have two reloading manuals that give recipes for 115 gr in a .380.
The 115 give me better accuracy than either a 90, 95 or 100 gr bullet in the .380.
But I'm thinking the 380 case is a teeny bit smaller than the 9mm.
