I am trying to regulate a double rifle, and rather than buy many combinations of components that may not work, I want to buy several factory loads, and then tweak them up or down by a few % of powder weights and see if that helps the two barrels group together.
Any dos or donts about removing bullets, taking maybe .25 grain powder from one and adding that same amount to others as a way of creeping the powder charges up and down from factory, and then reseating the bullets?

Any special techniques for removing bullets from loaded rounds, other than by using the primer and a firing pin?

Sounds like an interesting experiment. Be advised that removal of the bullet by any method can induce dimensional changes in both cartridge case and the bullet particularly where any sort of factory crimping is involved. You might want to try a few, observing and recording any changes, to see if any changes occur and to determine if such changes will be detrimental ballistically.

I don't think your idea is good one as far as safety is concerned. Why are you not just loading your own? You have no way of knowing the powder the factory is using in your particular cartridges. The unknown is and can be very dangerous territory in centerfire cartridges.

Regulating a double is not voodoo, it is really quite simple..It just sounds scary and one does not play silly games with a double trying to get velocity tweeked to max.

In 99% of the cases you can use RL-15 and Woodliegh bullets and regulate it in a single short session..Stop when the barrels shoot close together then file in the sights at 50 yds..I like them 1" high at 50, others want spot on..My call is if I'm going to shoot him in the eye, then I gotta see the eye, not cover it up..

If not you may have to use IMR-4831, IMR-4350 or RL-22.....but I would need the above info to get you on the right track, that is caliber and make of gun and cordite charge.
