Having just received a Double Rifle (20 gauge Huglu conversion) in caliber .405 Winchester to play with, I am naturally interested in reduced loads to practice with, which could also double as deer hunting rounds.

Looking at the assortment of available pistol bullets in .410" diameter makes me curious if anyone has had experience loading them in a .405, and if so, what the results have been.
I am particularly thinking of jacketed bullets in the 200-230 grain range.

I load Hornday 210gr in my 400PDK. I found I needed to stay in the 1500-1700 velocity range for good performance on hogs. 2000++ does make short work of milk jugs.

Good luck finding a light load that will match your regulation.

In theory, you need lighter bullets to regulate at lower velocities to the same POI than your regular regulation load with heavier bullets.

This is quite well explained in the also otherwise recommendable book from Saul Braceras.

You might try BPCR cast bullets intended for the 40-65 or 40-70 Sharps Straight.
Make sure you get them large enough to fit your groove diameter and use with 22 to 24 grains of SR4759.

SR4759 is approx the same burning rate as IMR4227 or 5744 but it takes up a lot more space in the case. I use it in the 40-65 (single shot) with excellent results.
