Neck thickness standard?
What is the standard outside demention of a .308 at the neck with a bullet loaded. I was measuring some I have, all LC match cases and the thickness of the necks vary from .010 to .016. It makes some .012 larger when loaded! All fired the same amount of times and loaded with the same dies.

Yikes--that doesn't sound like match quality to me. I just spoct checked some factory hornady and they were .012" and some federal gold medal were .014". (These were 30-06 shells.) I don't think you should have a neck thicknes that varies by more than .002-.003 and I would consider that just plain old run of the mill ammo.
ONE question--had that brass been crimped?
If so did you trim and clean away the crimped area? I could see the remains of a crimp making a big variation like you have when measuring. Hope this helped.

Don, yes it doesn't sound like match brass. It's LC 72 though. I don't think it has been crimped. I'm going to sort it out, throw out the 0.010s as I think the thicker ones are more what is standard.
