Bullet wt for 280 ACK
Would like to know what weight bullet is prefered in the 280 ACK for deer sized game. I have a Rem model 78 Sportsman with a 26" Shillen barrel and have shot many different bullets in various weights with some success and I want to settle on one bullet weight for deer.
Please let me know your choices and also brand.
Thanks, Chief

I have my own 280 wildcat. Basically a 280GibbsImp. I shoot two bullets in it. The 140 and 160Accubond. For deer the 140 is fine. In my rifle the 160 will shoot just as flat if not flatter with RL25. Going forward it will be 160s and let the wife's 7x57 have the 140s.

As usual just my $.02

I have two 280 AIs. I like 150 NBTs for deer-sized game, and 150 NPTs for elk-sized game (160 Accubond should work well too, but NBTs are very accurate). My favorite load is 66 to 67 grs of Re25 with the 150 gr. bullets - but, work up to it. With a 26" barrel (Shilen), I get 3200 fps (Oehler 35). I just got back from Wyoming, where I killed a nice 4 x 4 mule deer buck (~200#), which was dead in his tracts with one shot with a 150 NBT [went through his spine just behind the shoulder]. Happy shooting, AIU

I would suggest the same bullet that I use in my 7MM Remington the Hornady 139 Gr. BTSP InterLockâ„¢

Eeker All I can say is you must have a 5' drop tube and a well made rifle. My case is 5-7grs larger than a normal 280AI and that is beyond my range.

On deer, bullet selection isn't very critical. Any of them from 120-175 7mm bullets will work well. I usually use what I use on everything else, which in a 7x57 is a 160 NP.

My Jarrett likes 140 grain boolits. Currently use Accubonds and TSX's. After the third barrel (I wore out the other two!) this one likes RL-22 powder. Other powder's it has liked are 4831 and to some extend, 4350. 210M primers and Norma brass.
