Reduced loads in rifle cases ?

Has anybody load data for target shooting in cases like 30-06 or 8x57 IS , 6,5x55 or 7,5x55 Swiss ?I heard about reduced loads using N110 in the 8x57 IS with a Sierra 175gr.Spitzer bullet ,isn`t it dangerous to use such a quick burning powder combined with such a low loading density ?

We have loaded practically all cases sizes - from the 222 family all the way up to the 577 T.Rex with reduced loads.

There is absolutly no problem with these loads when you use fast burning powders - including most pistol powders.

The secret is to keep the charges low, and you have to add a piece of tissue paper on top of the powder to keep it down.

Most of the times we use Alliant UNIQUE, but others work just as well.

You will find charges of between 13-20 grains of UNIQUE work well with 308-30-06 case sizes.

For the 460 Weatherby we go 40 + grains.

The danger you heard apparently occurs when one uses reduced charges of very slow powders.

Saeed, what size bullet do you use with this charge? Currently for a 168 gr BTHP I use a 53 gr charge (although true 4350=slow powder). Since your suggestion is significantly less, I was curious.

Alex,

You can use any bullet weight you wish. Some rifles, depending on the twist rates, seem to prefer one bullet weight over another as far as accuracy is concerned.

For instance, I load 155 grain FMJ bullets in the 308 for the kids to have fun with shooting a "big rifle"

For the 460 Weatherby we use cast lead bullets of about 550 grains.
