Best .243 Win. powder?
I have a Ruger M77UL .243 Win. (20" barrel) I am trying to work up a load for.

It will shoot 1 1/2"-1 3/4" groups at 100 yards with cheap ammo, Walmart Win. SP 100 gr.

Using that brass, once fired and neck sized, I have tried loading Hornady 100 BTSP with CCI 200 LR primers. I already had some IMR4831 from my .270 Win. loading so I tried it with 41.0-43.0 gr. in .5 gr. increments. The best groups were with 41.0 gr., but they were still 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

I was thinking of trying the same combination as above because that's what I have and IMR4350 with 40.0-42.0 gr.

Any suggestions on the best powder for a 100 gr. .243 Win. load?

Joe:

Try 41.5 grs. of I 4350 w/ 95 gr. NBT. Works for me in my 595 Tikka and also worked very well in my Blaser 93.

Yes. I got best groups with H4350. I suppose IMR4350 would be just as good if not better. I loaded for a friend and he already had the powder on hand.

Slower is better, particularly with the heavier bullets. Try H4831, SC version if you like.

My choice is 90 Nosler bal tips over 42.4 IMR 4350 WLP.

My old 243 was really contrary and hard to find a load for. Finally, out of frustration, I tried some IMR4320. Presto, it became a tack driver with 100gr Noslers. Just goes to show, you never know til you try!

All I can tell you is what has worked for me. With 85gr. bullets it's H-414, with 100gr. bullets it's H-4350, RL#22, all you can do is work with it. have a good one.
