New Hornady case prep center.....wow

For a tad over $300 one seems to get a lot here.... powered case trimmer and ID/OD chamfer as well as other little tidbits....primer pocket cleaner, case neck brush, flash hole uniformer.....

Anyone got on yet?.....how's it work for you?

I'm thinking it takes two hands to run this thing so I doubt anyone wants two of them.

I like the idea of picking up a case only once and doing just about everything that needs to be done to it......and under power!

I liked the RCBS case center also but it didn't trim the cases to length.....ya had an extra tool and an extra step.....Hornady IMO has done this thing right.....for those that want to nibble at the price.....$313 it seems!

i'd like one but having the rcbs prep center, power trimmer, neck turner etc. i just can't justify it. that is unless one of you guys would volunteer to but all my old stuff at at an inflated price. Big Grin

My case-prep center:



My little case lathe thingy is made from an old pencil sharpener base, a piece of threaded rod I got at the hardware store, and old 3/8-inch drill chuck, the handle from the pencil sharpener and a few nuts to keep the rod correctly located in the base. It's a little floppy in use, but not too bad. It cost me all of two or three bucks and I can prep a case in less than 30 seconds. The little tray attached to the wood platform keeps my chamfer tool right at hand. I made the trimming tool from a 5/8-inch open-end wrench, cut off such that it would clear the wooden base and fit well in my hand. I can tighten the shellholder, trim the case and loosen the shellholder without ever putting down the tool. I can scrape the crud from the primer pockets by opening up the chuck to where the .223 cases fit in mouth first and then use my RCBS pocket tool to get that stuff right out. Takes just seconds. I can chamfer a pocket exactly the same way. Takes just seconds. I can chamfer the flash hole by putting the flash hole tool into the chuck and then just run the cartridge down onto the tool and spinnin' away. Takes just seconds...
