Kyler HamannNew IMR powders
Am I the last one to hear about the
three new IMR powders?
Oh boy! Getting three new powders introduced is like having three new colors of unicorns to look for... although I have seen a bit of the 4166 available.
Did you see the attribute of "copper fouling eliminator"? Does any other powder advertise removal of copper fouling? That seems way too good to be true. Will it keep my scope zeroed too? Keep mud from building up on my boots?
If anyone has tried these new miracle powders please post your results.

WstrnhuntrChecked the webbsite. 30-06 with a 180 grain and 4451 turned up.... one load.

I think Ill stick with the powder I have for now..
Temp insensitive and small grains for better metering does sound good though.

hooliSupposed to be very, very nice powders for the average reloader. They say that they're more forgiving in terms of load densities and pressures, as well as far less temperamental than the Hodgdon CFE 223 in suitable calibers.
The temp stability is supposed to surpass that, even, of the best Hodgdon Extreme powders like H4198 and H4350 or Varget and Benchmark.
I've not yet had the chance to get my hands on 4166, but I'm anxiously awaiting it based on the reviews of the folks I know that HAVE been shooting it.

RapidrobJust like the "new" powders from Hodgdon and Winchester, if they don't sell well they will be pulled from the market. That is a real shame. The new triple-base powders were fantastic to use. They did not sell well due to "if it ain't Varget,I won't use it crowd".
The new IMR powders are also blends to increase velocity and not chamber pressures. The removing of copper is also good.
IMR has not released the composition of these powders,at least not to the public yet.
So far the powder is on the pricy side at over 30 bucks a pound. As it comes in I hope the price drops.

I was disappointed to learn that IMR 4007 SSC has been dropped. With a burning speed between 4064 and 4350 and the fine granuales , I thought this powder was very useful. I suspect they never sold enough so it was pulled. Will the same be happening with the new powders???
