molar17mm mag powders
Hey guys,
I need some advice. Which powders seem to work well with the 7mm rem. mag using 160 gr partitions?

Jay JohnsonMy most accurate and consistant loads for my 7MM Remington Mag have been with IMR 4350. The first powder I tried in the gun. I've tried several others a few have given just a little more MV but none have matched the 4350 accuracy.

paul garrettI tried Re25 with 160 Sierras and didn't like the result. I have used H870 with the 160 Sierras for years in an older 7 mm Rem and it drives tacks. 870 should beat H4350 for velocity with the 160. I have also had very good luck with IMR7828 and Speer GS 160.

fredj338I like as high a vel. as possible & good accuracy when I look for a powder in any given cartridge. Starting at H4831sc & going to H1000. I have had great luck w/ RL22 & like IMR7828 even better. Sub moa w/ 160gr NP @ 3100fps. You may get good accuracy w/ one of the 4350 but give up as much as 150fps. Might as well have a .280.

buckshotMy best loads have been with V-V N160 a powder with a burning rate much like 4350. 66.0 grains with Nosler's 160 partition gives an honest 3050FPS and has stopped everything I pointed the gun at.

cobradH4831 has been my go-to powder in the 7 rem mag.

Rob1SGIt has been my experience that in the hvy bullets 160-175 the slower powders are better. RL 22 is my favorite but Retumbo is also a great powder. Each rifle will have its favorite powder and bullet combo. Also do a search and you'll find tons of loads here.Good Luck

olarmyAnother vote for H4831. Works well in my 7Mag with 160 Partitions @ about 2950fps

BigNateMine does better with IMR7828 & RL22 than Retumbo or H1000. Go figure. Each rifle can definately be different. I use a lot of H4831sc, and it works well in the 7mm RM also. Nate
The best I found for my 7mag was IMR 4831, using 62.5 grains with the 160gr partition, which is the only bullet I use for this.
And not stretching the truth, it will hold 1/2" and under groups at 100yds every time I take it to the range. That's after a trigger job, and a synthetic stock to replace factory.

Magnum Hunter1One of the most perfect loads I have is 80 grains of H-870 behind the 160 Nosler Partition fired by a Fed 215 primer. I get sub moa groups and 3100fps. Great all around load.

jstevensRL22 seems to be more consistent to work in most rifles, along with 7828. In any I tried it in, H870 was high velocity, but not great in accuracy.
A shot not taken is always a miss
RL22 for mine. Sub MOA and spped to boot.
Second choice is 4831.

Man, I may not be as sophisticated as a lot of these good people but you just got to try the ecconomically accurate data 86 powder. In fact get a bunch of it. Eventually it'll go the route of 2200.

Darn, you use the same load I use. I only get 3050 out of a 24". Very accurate. Pain in the rear because it's a compresed load.
