DesertRam270 WSM and Barnes TSX
I ordered some Barnes TSX (140 grains) for my Dad's .270 WSM and will start working up a load when they come in. Has anybody worked with these bullets in this cartridge? Since the WSM isn't in the Barnes manual, I thought maybe some of you fellers had an idea of where I should start. Thanks for any input.
What powder do you want to use? If you have,or can find data for the 140 gr Barnes XBT you can use that to start, but you may have to go 1-2 gr higher to acheive the same velocities.Theres a few loads here
http://www.loadyourown.com/loaddata/sresults.asp and here
http://www.reloadersnest.com/but these are homebrewed loads, reduce to start and work up carefully. For the 130 gr Xs I started a couple gr under min from the Scirocco data and worked up which worked out pretty well for both the Xs and XXXs.BTW the BC for the XXXs is the same as the Xs. I have'nt started on the 140s yet.

DesertRamWell, I was hoping to utilize some powder I had on hand, namely RL-19 and/or IMR4831. According to Barnes (I emailed them when I posted this), the best options are Magnum (don't know the manufacturer), IMR7828, and RL-22. They recommend the 4831s and RL-19 for the 130 grain TSX, so it should work for the 140s at a slightly lower charge. Barnes says that the TSXs are loaded with regular X data, so at least I have somewhere else to go.
I wonder if they meant Magpro rather than Magnum?
Both links have a load or two for that, plus some others you mentioned.A friends been using it(Magpro by Accurate powder Co.)and getting some outrageous velocities.Noticed that one of those links did'nt work try this.I'll hit you up when I get around to the 140s!

Forgot to add,I'v gotten real good results with IMR 4831 with the 130s.I'm going to try Retumbo for the 140s,back to 4831 if it doesn't work out.And I think Ramshot makes a powder called Magnum?

owensbyCheckout shortmags .org forum.you can get lots of info there including loads. With the 270 WSM
The magpro worked well with 150 gr sst bullets very fast when you get up 70 grains.Accurate gives 3275 using 74.2 grs with a HornadyBTSP.
I use IMR 4350 with the speer 130's and 130 sst's at 3250 fps and at 200 yds get less than inch groups on a good day.

Marsh MuleJSR:
You wouldn't be talking about 3400+ fps with 140 grain Sierra Boatails, pushed by 74.4 grains of magpro would you?

Heres Ramshots page,if you decide to try it.
