snowmanDoublegun You didn't mention what sort orifle your 7x57 is built on. If it is one of the old 94 or 95 mausers they will not stand the pressure that a model 98 will handle. Or one of the more modern actions such as a Ruger 77 or # 1,Rem made a few 700's in that calibre and there are others. In a modern "strong action" the 7x57 gives up very little to the 270 & 280. I have had great sucess with the 139 Hornady on whitetails. My Comercial 98 action likes W760 powder. In a strong action you could start atabout 45 grs and work up carefully watching for signs of excessive pressure. The 154 would work as well. With W760 I would start at about 43 grs and work up. IMR 4350 and RL19 would also be good powders with the 154 gr .If you have an older not so strong action I would take another 3 or 4 grs off for starting loads. Hope that helps.

DoublegunIt's an early G&H built on a 1903 action with a 20" barrel.

bartscheIn one of my 7 x 57s in Mod. 98 *** 19" barrel, 40 gr. acc 2520 yields an accurate projectile at 2550 fps. There appears to be no adverse pressure signs with the combination in this rifle. This may not be a starting load in your rifle.

PatagonHunterHi DG,
I copy my answer to your question in Medium Bores.
"Hi Doublegun,
I use 50 grs of AA4350 or IMR4350 with 154 gr Hornady Spire Point. I get 2750 f/s in my Mauser 98 (1935) with a SIG military barrel cut at 60 cm. With Winchester cases and WLR primer. A perfect use for all in the 7x57 Mauser."
Good Luck!

BearhunterMy best accuracy and velocity using the Hornady 154 is with Winchester W760. Give it a try.

armadilloMy 7x57 does better with 154 SSTs and 47.5 gr. of H4350.
It is a M-98 with a new barrel and gets groups under 1". It is deadly on hogs and deer out to 150 yards, which is the longest shot I have to take.
