Crimping
Does anyone out there go ahead and give some bullets a little crimping, even though the bullet doesn't have a cannelure?

Absolutely! I use my Lee Factory Crimp on Sierra BTSP, and just use a slight roll crimp on copper plated 41 mag rounds.

I taper crimp all of my rifle and automatic handgun ammo and roll crimp all of my revolver ammo.

I don't crimp in .22/250, .243 or .303. All are loaded for one rifle only (my own) and all are b/a, stack magazine.

What I have done for those jacketed bullets, in bottle necked cases, is polish down the neck expander a bit. All of my cases are trimmed to length then the necks are turned. This gives a tight grip to the bullet, making the crimp unnessary.
All of my jacketed bullets are fired in bolt guns.

I used to just crimp for my autoloader but now I crimp for my bolt gun too. This is one of those questions... some do, and some don't. My suggestion is to do a search on the topic bucause it is heavily debated. Although some people say it is not necessary, I say it certainly couldn't hurt.
Rule of thumb is definately crimp for lever actions, pumps, and autoloaders, for bolt guns the Lee Factory Crimp die is a $10 experiment in fun.
Good luck
