mgcchknfavorite bulk 223 bullets
was wondering what you guys recommend for bulk 223 bullets for practice and plinking. I've never loaded 223, but the ammo prices are telling me I have to now.

was looking at the Rem or Win or Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT. I can get the Hornady's cheaper than the rest, but was wondering about accuracy and quality.
thanks!

craigsterOver the years I've tried a lot of 223 bullets and as far as "bulk" goes I use Remington HP's (50 & 55 gr). They are accurate and quite explosive. The FMJ's have never been real great for me in the accuracy department and aren't much cheaper than the HP's.

The best bulk for all around accuracy vs. cost are the Varmint Nite Mares and the Varmunt Nite Mare Extremes From Mid South.

45 Win Mag
1/4" groups with Midsouths 55gr Varmit Nightmares 3700fps 22-250 going to try their Extream Nightmares next NO CONALURE which I prefer. Just keep that barrel warm whatever the cost!
Don't let any get dusty or rusty

MThuntrSometimes you can catch good deals on blemished bullets, but for cheap plinking Varmint Nightmares are hard to beat.
I think Midsouth has them On Sale right now too.

mad_jack02A few years back I bought some rem. 55gn sp bulk packed bullets and when I got around to working up a load I'm getting about.325" groups @100 yards using surplus G.I. brass. I didn't think it was to bad considering. My dad has ordered all dif. types of bulk packed bullets and has always got decent results.

rowdyredneck+1 on the Varmint Nightmares from Midsouth. I just bought 1,000 of them. I haven't loaded up any to try them out, but for the price they are hard to beat.

srtWinchester 55 grain softpoints in my 22/250 are extremely accurate, cheap and deadly on prairie dogs.

vapodogWell then.....I'll be the sole dissenter to vote for the TNTs by Speer. I've had great success with them.

ole_270+1 on those TNT's though they are getting harder to find and way higher than when I first started buying them. The first bulk bullets I bought were the 55 Hornadys from Grafs. They shot great in every rifle I tried them in. Not quite the "mist" factor of the TNTs, but great on coyotes and larger varmints.

tnekkccThe 55 gr Varmint Nightmares were nightmares for me.
The exposed lead tip gave my ceramic media and Lyman 600 bowl lead contamination in my moly coating process.
Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel's back. The 50 gr varmint nightmares work well for me.

mgcchknare those of you that are using the soft point bullets using them in bolt guns or semi's? I've never had good luck with soft points in semi-auto's.

kududeI have a Colt HBAR with tight twist and the best bulk bullet I found for it was the Win 63gr soft point. Just about as good as the Hornady target bullet. It is shooting pretty good in my Stevens bold gun too. Kudude
