30-06 to 35 Whelen?

They sure will. BUT this how I would do it. First run the 06 cases over the 358cal expander bell in the sizer die. I would get a .375 cal expander bell for your sizer depriming stem and set the stem out so that the neck will be opened up but not into the upper neck part of the die. Put the 358 expander back on and then set the die in the press so it only sizes down about 3/4 the way down the neck. At this point try the case in you gun and see if they will fit with a med. ammout of effort to close,I don't mean using a hammer. The bolt should not close at this point. Keep turning the die down 1/4 turing at a time and trying the cases in the gun till the bolt will close with effort. At this point you can load the case with a starting load and the cases will firefome perfectly to the gun chamber. What happened when you over expanded and sized back down you formed a false shoulder on the neck that held the base of the case against the bolt when it fireformed. The more steps that you can take between 30cal and .375cal the easier it is on the brass. The worst situation would be that you would have to get other expanders for your sizer dies. Best situation would be that you beg-barrow-steal sizer dies in progressive larger sizes as they are only used to make the brass the one time. To make my 9.3x62 casses(.366") from 06, I run them into a 303die(311)then 8mm die(.323") then into 338 Win die, a 357 mag expander, 9.3x62 expander and then over a 38/55 expander and then back into the 9.3x63 to set the shoulder and then fireform. I uses Imperial caes sizing wax on the inside of the neck at each step and on the out side of neck at the last step when sizeing down to form the false shoulder.

I have even formed Whelen brass from 270 brass. Annealed the necks first. Did it just to see if I could and while it worked,it took a lot more trimming to get the case mouths square than with 30-06 brass.

Fat Albert is correct on how to form the brass in that neck it up slightly over .358 internal diameter then neck it down to fit the chamber. I made my own long (1"+) tapered expander plug to about .370" diameter so I can expand the neck in one pass. Lubing the inside of the neck is a must do to make this work smoothly.

All I shoot are 250 grain Speer so no load help for the 225 Accubonds.

59 grains of RL-15 worked well for me.....but I used the 225 grain partition....

Check the Nosler website for the load data....that's where I got my load!

I have a 35 Whelen that I haven't gotten around to shooting yet, but I bought several pounds of RL-15 for that purpose. I believe with some research you'll find that it is considered by many to be the go-to powder for this cartridge.

H4895 works well also. I get 2300-2400fps in a 15" encore. Actually with a 225 BT.

Duno how much help this will be but i use 60.4 gr. of RL-15 with the 225 gr. Barnes TSX in my Whelen. Extremely accurate with groups running .50 to .75" when I do my part.

Needless detail and waste of time. I have been making 35 Whelens out of 30-06 cases since 1966. Just run them through a 35 Whelen FL die.

Yes, as a pistol. However, it does have a factory brake, which gives an OAL of 16 1/8".

Reloader 15 works very well for me with the 250's. I like the round nose and have worked up to 58.5 grains in most rifles. You won't find this in many load books but safe in my guns.

Barstooler; That should work as everyone knows that reloading dies have the EXACT same dimensions as every chamber out there. If that works for you ,all well and good. PS: Do you uses a powder scale or do you just throw from your power thrower manufactors recomendations?

I assume your chamber is now cut to factory standard for 35 Whelen since it has not been a wild cat for quite a while.

If you were necking up 270 cases to load them as 30-06, other than trimming them would you go through a similar procedure?

To answer your snide p.s. question, No. I just through a bunch a powder at the empty cases while they sit there.
