redriverbioLyman vs. RCBS
In the Cabela's Master catalog fall 04 the Rcbs chargemaster 1500 dispenser digital scale is $300 and the Lyman DPS 1200 is $225. Why should I not buy the Lyman?

Cal SibleyThis is merely one mans opinion, but I've used Lyman reloading products for years now and find them to be every bit the equal of RCBS and others. Their reloading dies have always been top notch. I don't know about turret presses. I'm leery of them for loading concentric ammo, too much give for my liking. That also applies to the Redding Turret press. Best wishes.

jpbI agree with Cal -- overall, I've found Lyman and RCBS of about equal quality for most products.
However, my experience is that RCBS is by far the best if you ever break something! RCBS nearly always just replaces/fixes anything without regard to how old it is (or how you broke it!). Lyman sticks to their warranty period (and even then are not as nice to deal with as RCBS) -- if you dropped something and it broke you are out of luck with Lyman.
With RCBS, I dropped my 15 year old 1010 scale and it broke. RCBS fixed it for nothing, then sent it back to me (in Europe) by courier (which cost them about $30) -- total cost was zero!
Lyman is a good honest company, but RCBS's "no questions" policy has me considering them first today.

phurley5I have used and owned both and I sold my RCBS. The calibration with the Lyman is much easier and dumping the powder is much better. I do 3000 plus rounds per year, speed and simplicity and accuracy are important to me.

Good luck and good shooting.

RupertBearMy reloading partner and I have been using the Lyman 1200 for about 6 months now (and I find it a bit funny that Cabela's has now dropped its price on the Lyman down to what Natchez SS was charging last year), and we have had no problems wiht it at all. I only have experience with the earlier generations of RCBS' digitals, and that exxperience is what drove me from RCBS to Lyman.
Years back, Lyman pretty much made cheap stuff. Over the years,t hey've been working hard to increase the quality, and I think that RCBS has yet to realize that Lyman is now producing stuff of equal or superior quality.
