I bought 2 lbs with the intenetion of using it. Never got around to trying it, now it's obsolete. I load .223, .308, .35 whelen, 8x57, 7x57, 30-06, .303, 7.62x54r, .458 win. What should I use it in?

GSF1200,

I use RL-12 in my custom 358 Win, 52 grains under the 200 grain Barnes X, WW case, Fed 210 M primer.

I've got 4 lbs squirreled away.

Good luck,

Bob

RL12 works great in 308 with lighter bullets. I use it for both 150's and 168's. Should also work good for the lighter bullets in 30-06. It's ballistically very close to 4895. Should also work good for the 223 in the bullets above 50g.

GSF - It's superb in the 223 with 52/53's and 55's; and in the 308 with 150's for target type loads - a trifle fast burning if you're after max velocity.

I've never tried it in the 358, although it should be about the ideal burn rate for that one. Alliant lists 50 grains max with 200 grain bullet.

Alliant shows a max load of 60 grains with 200 and 250 grain bullets in the 35 Whelen.

Actually, it should be an excellent powder for everything you list, with the exception of the .30-06 and 7x57, where it's just a trifle fast for optimum velocities.

My recommendation is to select a caliber/gun for which you don't currently have a favorite load, work up a good load with the RL-12 in it, then use your remaining supply of RL-12 exclusively in that gun/load. That way your 2 lbs will last you a long time (provided you use it for normal hunting activities and not bench or varminting).

I used Reloder 12 in my pair of 222 remingtons for several years with great success. Now it's out of production and I have about 1- lbs left, more's the pity. [Frown] Regards, Eagleye.
