Accubond tip removal?
I noticed in one of my Accubond bullet box (.308 200gr) that one of the tips had fallen out. That got me thinking. Confused In my .308 Win, my seating depth is limited by magazine clearence (OAL cant go any longer than 2.800). I have reloaded some in the past beyond that 2.800 for use at the range, single shot. But for hunting uses it would be nice to get closer to the lands as accuracy is better. The big question is what are all the external/terminal disadvantages of removing the tips for shooting deer/elk? Doing so gets me alot closer to the lands.

Interesting....Don't know how big the hollow point is but it certainly shouldn't open any faster than if the tip was "pushing it open".
It might affect bc some but in a 308 I'd assume that you're doing your shooting short of 300 yds.
I don't see a reason to do it unless it makes you considerably more accurate...then I'd say...go for it.

opps, I did forget to mention that MOST shots are under 300 yrds, and muzzle vel is 2700. I have seated Speer Hot-Cor .010 from the lands and it really tightend up the groups, and wondered if the same would happen with the Accubonds or even the Interbonds. I do still need to try them .010 off the lands, and IF accuarcy improves, then I will have to look at removing tips. I am not dead set on doing this (removing tips), but it might be another option to deal with the magazine limitation. I still have my bread and butter load with 1/2in groups, but wouldnt all holes touching be nice? Isnt that what tinkering is all about? Damn hobbie is addicting...

If your longest shot is 300yds, what kind of accuracy improvement are we talking about? If your load shoots 1moa you are good out to 300yds. If you could improve it to 3/4moa but reduce the bullets termianl effect, why? bewildered

Might be interesting to cut the plastic tip back to just in front of the jacket leaving a small flat point. May give you the best of both, shorter length and tip protection.

in my 300WSM, the 150s work well on the lands, well actually they are 2thou off. they shot .35, with a 10 thou jump they were 1.3" and at 20 thou they were 2.1" everything was the same except i just had them in the case a bit further. most think accubonds/ballistic tips work well near the lands...

if it were me id pull the tips off them if they wont fit in the mag. you will loose some BC but under 300yards itll be fairly insignificant. and i dont think that deer is going to notice.

orrrrr you could lengthen your magazine box...
